Character Design – Thumbnailing (Thorin Oakenshield)

This is the first part of a longer series exploring a Character Design workflow of starting with thumbnail silhouettes, to then more refined thumbnails and in later parts, final paintings.

The character is Thorin Oakenshield a Dwarf from Lord Of the Rings.

I use just custom brushes with eraser, using hotkeys for tool selection to speed things up. Another tip is to press ctrl-click while you have the selection tool and click the silhouette you want to select to choose that layer.
